Centrifugal pump wheel analysis


GES conducted a numerical analysis of a centrifugal pump wheel. The analysis was based on a periodic 3D model consisting of 15 million elements, using FLUENT software. The model used in the analysis was the standard k-epsilon turbulence model with a standard wall function. The k-epsilon model is suitable for fully turbulent flows. 

The aim of the analysis was to determine the characteristics of the pump, the distribution of speed and pressure on the active and passive sides of the blade and at the cross-section of the inlet into and the outlet out of the interblade channel.

The results of the analysis allowed us to further analyse the geometry of the rotor and to modify the rotor for its improved performance. The results of the CDF analysis were verified against a real model at a testing station.
